Dentures Have Been Valuable for Years
Dentures have been used for centuries. That’s because people did not practice good dental hygiene in the old days. They didn’t even brush their teeth, go to the dentist or floss! No wonder they lost their teeth so early. Even George Washington lost his teeth early. He was only 24 when his teeth started to fall out. Some experts think it was because of poor dental hygiene, but others think it was because he took a poison, mercury oxide to combat malaria and smallpox. Either way, Washington had no teeth by the age of thirty, so he started wearing dentures made of brass, gold, ivory, and human teeth. They weren’t exactly reliable for chewing, but they did give him a smile - ever notice Washington never has an open-mouthed smile in paintings?
Dentures have been used for hundreds of years as a way to replace teeth. It may be that you lost your teeth due to the effects of tobacco. Full and Partial Dentures
If you have teeth that are missing on one side of your mouth, or you are missing the same teeth on either side of your mouth, you may benefit from partial dentures. Partial dentures are able to replace your missing teeth while leaving your other teeth intact. Partial dentures are usually made of plastic for the base of the dentures, and porcelain that is used to make teeth. This helps make your replacement teeth as natural as possible. The partial dentures are put in place by using metal brackets. This means you can take your dentures in and out.
If you are missing all of your teeth, you could benefit from full dentures. Unlike partial dentures, full dentures can be made of several different materials. Some full dentures are made out of porcelain with a combination of metal, plastic, and resin. We will be able to tell you which material would be best for your full dentures.
