Why Clear Aligners? Tigard, OR
Usually, when you think of dental appliances, you only think of those for children. This is not always the case. Even adults can or must use the appliances. What to do in these cases? Adult treatments are more complex, as the mouth is already fully formed and developed or because there may be missing teeth or reconstructed teeth. Since adults are also much more concerned about the aesthetic aspect, clear orthodontics, Invisalign, is used in these cases. All you have to do is come to us Lincoln Center Smiles where we specialize in family dentistry. We will perform a thorough dental exam and decide if clear aligners are the right dental device for you.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a particular orthodontic technique which consists in aligning the teeth in an almost invisible way. This is possible thanks to the creation of a clear aligner that is applied to the dental arches.
Invisalign uses a 3D digital imaging technology with which it can show the complete treatment plan from start to finish. You can observe in advance how your teeth will look at the end of the treatment, observing their movements over time in advance. After observing the final position of your teeth, various aligners will be made that will help you bring the teeth into the desired position. The different aligners are replaced every two weeks, more and more similar to the final position of your teeth, so as to move them gradually and without trauma. The treatments vary according to the specific needs and requirements of the patient.
How does Invisalign Treatment Work?
Invisalign clear aligners work in a very simple way. The different aligners are designed and made to measure for each patient. First, the dental impression is taken and photographs of the teeth are taken to make the various aligners. Subsequently, every one to two weeks, the aligner will be changed to a subsequent one until the teeth are brought into position.
The Invisalign treatment controls the extent of the movement of the teeth due to each aligner and also the timing. In each of the phases (weekly or biweekly), only a few teeth are moved, following the plan defined for the Invisalign treatment. In this way there will be a system of optimal forces, moving the teeth in the best order.
The aligners must be worn 20-22 hours a day, taken off only to eat and drink, and to brush your teeth.
The Advantages of Invisalign
Invisalign treatment has several advantages, especially for adult orthodontics. First, these are clear aligners that are unlikely to be noticed. This completely eliminates the aesthetic problem. The Invisalign aligners are removable so there are no food restrictions, as there are with metal braces. Lastly, being able to visualize the end result is a great advantage to meticulously organize the treatment.
