Why a Fever Plus a Toothache Makes Us Nervous

Why a Fever Plus a Toothache Makes Us NervousA fever occurs when your body temperature exceeds 98.6 degrees. A fever is not an illness, but it is a symptom of something else that is going on in your body. Your body is fighting something when you have a fever. Usually, patients have a fever when it is accompanied by an infection. Most people reach for over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine to reduce the discomfort of the fever. If you have a fever, please read the label carefully on any medicine you choose before you take it. If your fever is over 100 degrees, you should seek immediate medical attention.

A Toothache Plus a Fever is a Dental Emergency

If your fever is coupled with a toothache, you could have a dental emergency. The reason this situation is serious is because fever, pain, redness, and swelling are all signs that the infection is becoming an abscessed tooth. An abscessed tooth has a pocket of infection filled pus inside the tooth. The body tries to fight it off, but unfortunately the pocket sometimes ruptures and spreads the infection to other parts of your body. At this point you have a very serious situation. This is when your body could contract sepsis, which is when your entire system is overrun with infection because the infection is now traveling around in your blood stream.
