What Can Lead to Teeth Becoming Sensitive to Sugar
Posted on 8/23/2021 by Dr. Saklofsky
If you have sensitive teeth you know the sensation that occurs if you have a hot beverage, a cold beverage, or a sweet treat. The discomfort can be a sharp pain, or a dull ache. Regardless of the type of sensation, it is undoubtedly uncomfortable, and most people will want to avoid it.
Where is my Enamel?
There are many factors that lead to sensitive teeth. Some people have more sensitive teeth than others because they have thinner enamel. Enamel is the hard outer layer of your teeth, which is the only protective layer on your teeth. It is possible to wear down your enamel by brushing your teeth too hard. Use a soft bristle toothbrush and brush your teeth gently. Also, your enamel can wear down if you regularly eat or drink acidic foods and beverages. If you are drinking fruit juice, consider using a straw.
Bruxism May Cause Sensitivity in Your Teeth
If you have bruxism, you may have sensitive teeth. Bruxism is a condition where you grind or clench your teeth. This often happens when you sleep. Talk to us about a mouth guard if you suspect you have bruxism. This intervention may help your sensitivity to sugar and other foods.
