 Hairline cracked teeth are minor problems, however, they can cause pretty serious dental complications if they aren't corrected. Hairline cracks fall into 4 main categories: craze lines, vertical cracks, splits, and cracked cusps. Craze lines are small cracks on the surface of the tooth. They occur in only the tooth's enamel and don't go any further than that. Vertical cracks run from the root of the tooth to the crown. Splits are cracks that separate the tooth into two different parts. A cracked cusp occurs on the top surface of a tooth. Hairline cracks are caused mainly by pressure on the teeth. Over time, putting pressure on your teeth causes tiny cracks that may be unnoticeable to the eye. However, hairline cracks are noticeable by the way they feel. Many people affected by hairline cracks often experience a sharp pain when they bite down. Increased levels of pain occur when the hairline crack becomes worse. Why Hairline Cracks Are BadHairline cracks pose problems for several different reasons. One of those reasons is that they indicate a tooth is about to chip or break. Chipped and broken teeth are not easy to repair and usually need to have crowns. In some cases, we can repair broken and cracked teeth by using dental resin or composite as well. Hairline cracks are also bad for your dental health. While it may be hard for us to see them, bacteria can creep their way inside of a hairline crack and cause tooth decay. This is because a toothbrush isn't able to reach inside of the small crack. Getting a hairline crack fixed is simple, and we can help.
