Three Things to Never Do with Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth to improve their appearance. They can be used to fix a variety of dental problems, such as chipped or discolored teeth, gaps between teeth, and even slightly crooked teeth.

While dental veneers can be a great way to achieve a beautiful smile, it's important to remember that they are not indestructible. With proper care, veneers can last for many years. However, there are a few things you should never do with dental veneers, as they can damage them and shorten their lifespan.

1. Use Your Teeth as Tools

Your teeth are not tools, and you should never use them to open packages, bite your nails, or chew on hard objects like ice. Doing so can put excessive pressure on your veneers and cause them to chip or crack.

2. Forget About Oral Hygiene

Just because you have veneers doesn't mean you can neglect your oral hygiene routine. It's still important to brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily. You should also see your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings. Neglecting your oral hygiene can lead to gum disease and tooth decay, which can damage your veneers and your natural teeth.

3. Skip Your Night Guard

If you grind your teeth at night, you need to wear a night guard to protect your veneers. Grinding can put a lot of stress on your veneers and cause them to chip or break.

Taking Care of Your Veneers

By following these simple tips, you can help ensure that your dental veneers last for many years to come.

Here are some additional tips for taking care of your veneers:
•  Avoid biting on hard foods, such as nuts, candy, and ice.
•  Don't use your teeth to open bottles or packages.
•  If you play sports, wear a mouthguard to protect your teeth.
•  See your dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings.

With proper care, your dental veneers can give you a beautiful, healthy smile that will last for years.
