Most Dental Crowns Feel Totally Normal in Your MouthIf your dentist has recently told you that you need to get a dental crown, you may be wondering what you should be expecting. This is totally normal, and we want to do our best to help you understand the procedure, as well as what you can expect afterwards.

Getting A Dental Crown

To start, you should know what a dental crown is. When one of your teeth is damaged—whether through injury or decay—it is often possible to save the tooth by means of a dental crown. A dental crown is a device that is fashioned to duplicate the look and feel of your normal tooth. It is essentially a durable cap that fits over the existing toother (with some modifications to the tooth beforehand). We affix it in place using a specialized dental adhesive.

Once the procedure is finished, you will quickly realize that adjusting to a dental crown is really no adjustment at all. The crown is designed to mimic the feel and function of your natural tooth. Many people forget they even have a crown!

Caring For Your Dental Crown

Because a dental crown mimics the feel and function of your tooth, caring for it is as simple as caring for your natural teeth. Simply continue to brush at least twice each day, and floss at least once during every 24 hours. If you do that, you will find that the crown will usually give you no trouble at all!

In the rare event that the crown does become loose or need attention, simply let us know. We will carefully inspect it and determine the next step. It may be as simple as reattaching it with some fresh adhesive. In most cases, though, this is never an issue.
